School Journey for Years 5 and 6

Our Years 5 and 6 are very lucky to go on School Journey usually in May at the Fellowship Afloat Centre at Tollesbury, Essex.    It is a unique place for adventure and exploring the environment.  Based on a converted lightship moored on the coast, it is an ideal activity venue for schools.

For five days the children will have the “chance of a lifetime” experience of living on a ship!   This is the Trinity Lightship, which used to battle against the waves of the North Sea, is now safely moored in a quiet river estuary only 90 minutes drive or so from our school.   The ship has been converted to take school parties and the fully trained instructors offer a host of exciting activities.

The Centre has its own fleet of sailing dinghies and the children will have the opportunity to sail throughout the week.   There is a chance for village and wildlife studies, rowing, archery, art and crafts, football and games, estuary dredging, raft building, talent contests, a barbecue and the Centre also has its own indoor climbing wall.

We have the whole Centre to ourselves and the children will sleep on board the ship in shared cabins.   The staff are on duty 24 hours a day and the Centre is fully licensed for outdoor activities.
