YEAR 5 ASSEMBLY - STREET CHILD 17TH FEB 2011
Thursday 17th of February
Year 5 thrilled us with an amazing Class Assembly given to the whole school and Year 5 parents today. The production was based on the book "Street Child" by Berlie Doherty. Jim Jarvis is a runaway when his mother dies, Jim is all alone in the workhouse and desperate to escape. But London in the 1860's is a dangerous and lonely place for a small boy and life is a constant battle for survival. Jim's gripping adventure is based on the true story of the orphan whose plight ispired Doctor Barnardo to set up his famous children's refuge.
Year 5 assembly evoked the poverty in Victorian London giving us a brilliant and moving glimpse into life on the street's of London 150 years ago.
